Louisiana Ranked Best State for Digital Media

The Bayou State is in the spotlight once again after the recent announcement that Louisiana ranked best state for digital media according to Business Facilities Magazine. The Crescent City has recently attracted several critically acclaimed development studios including Firebrand Games (of Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii), Electronic Arts, and Crawfish Records.

Louisiana’s digital media industry is one of the fastest growing in the nation, increasing at a rate of more than 100 percent every day. This growth is due, at least in part, to the success of Louisiana’s digital media tax incentives. These incentives provide a tax credit of 35% of qualified tax production and labor expenditures for Louisiana State-certified digital interactive productions. The growth of the industry has brought with it important improvements in the infrastructure and workforce. As of 2012, the state has almost 19,000 skilled software developers and more than 100,000 professionals working within digital media or software development. Within its information sector, which includes software publishing and telecommunications, Louisiana has experienced the second fastest growth rate in the country since June 2009.

Now widely referred to as the ‘Creative Capital of the South’, “Louisiana’s rich culture in creativity, film, music and television has been a natural fit for the development of an emerging digital media and technology industry,” said Business Facilities Editor in Chief, Jack Rogers.

It is the state’s ability to roll with the times that has led Louisiana to the number one spot of the Business Facilities digital media leader board. Louisiana is establishing itself as the go-to source for all things digital media and film production related and is setting a very high standard across the board.

The announcement of the top spot came as no real surprise to those who have been working within these sectors, but it was an eye-opening perspective change for those who have yet to take note of the Bayou State’s rapid developments.
